EXTRACTED FROM HONG KONG 16/1429.

Admiralty,

18th July, 1922.

Sir,

I am commanded by My Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to acquaint you, for the information of the Army Council, that difficulties have been experienced for some time by the Dookyardmen at Hong Kong in regard to obtaining suitable housing accommodation.

2. My Lords have had under their consideration a report by the Director of Dockyards (who recently visited Hong Kong) from which they gather that the Army Council are contemplating moving a considerable number of troops from the Island to the mainland.

3.

If this be the case, it may be that there will be housing accommodation surplus to military requirements.

4.

My Lords will therefore be glad to be informed at an oarly date whother there are any War Department houses or quarters available at Hong Kong which the Army Council would be prepared to hand over to the Admiralty for the housing of Dockyard men.

The Seoretary,

War Office, 8.W.1.

I am,

sir,

(Sgd.)

Your obedient Servant,
